The world renowned Tommy Dorsey Orchestra presents a special concert
performing the music that made this ensemble famous the world over.
Buddy Morrow, an internationally known band leader of his own
orchestra, leads these outstanding musicians in a concert you will
never forget. Buddy Morrow is one of the all-time great trombone
players who was a featured performer with the great bands of the Big
Band era. Buddy insists that the band retain the authentic sound and
style of the late Tommy Dorsey and still have the elasticity to meet
every musical situation. You will hear the original Dorsey classics as
well as popular music from Dixieland and rhythm and blues. The Tommy
Dorsey Orchestra led by Buddy Morrow represents explosive and swinging
Big Band entertainment at its best.

Northport Public School invites you to attend the Senior Project
Exhibitions which will begin in the school auditorium. Thirteen
seniors have prepared their exhibitions to share with the public.

Sportsman's Club Smelt Dinner

Northport Sportsman Club is holding their annual Smelt Dinner in the
Leelanau Township Fire Hall. For more information, contact Jack
Moorlag at 386-7692. Tickets: $10 for adults, $5 for children, and
tadpoles (pre-school) eat free.

The walking track and exercise equipment at Northport Public School is
available for public use. One mile is equal to 14 times around the
track plus another 30 feet. To get to the track, enter the school
through the main front doors and turn right, proceeding to the first
hallway. Then turn left going to the second door on the right for the
stairway leading up to the track and exercise equipment. Use at your
own risk.

Auditions for West Side Story

Theatre North TC will produce this Academy Award winning musical for
the Northport Community Arts Center on July 24, 25, 26, 27, 31, August
1, 2, 3, 2008.

Auditions will occur in the Music/Band Room at Northport Public School
on April 22, 2008, at 7:00 pm. and at the Grand Trunk Theater, 620
Railroad Place (accessed from Eighth St) on April 20 & 21 at 7:00 pm.

They are looking especially for high school and college students, to
fill the roles of many of the leads, the Jets and Sharks gang members
and dancers. For further questions call Thomas Stokes, Vocal Director
at 946-1953 or Mike Kelly, Director at 360-0487.

History of the Wolfe Family in Northport

Area native and local historian Avis Wolfe will talk about the history
of the Wolfe family at Northport's Trinity Church. The presentation
is sponsored by the Northport Area Heritage Association.

Wolfe, who grew up near Omena, has researched both her and her
husband's family histories as well as much Northport history. She'll
present brief biographies of the thirteen children of Payson and Mary
Jane Smith Wolfe, complete with photographs of them all. The
Smith/Wolfe family has a long history in Northport. Mary Jane Smith
Wolfe was the daughter of Rev. George N. Smith, one of the early
settlers.

There is no charge for attending, but a free will offering will be taken.

Soup for Sustainability

Join Sophia Mosher for a soup and bread dinner that will be the
product of her senior project which is about the need for change in
the government food aid program. All proceeds will go to Heifer
International, an organization focused on long-term solutions to world
hunger. It will be held in the Northport Public School entrance lobby.
Suggested donations: $8.

TOMMY DORSEY ORCHESTRA HEADLINES NORTHPORT COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER
SEASON KICK OFF CONCERT MAY 5, 2008

NORTHPORT, MI – The world renowned Tommy Dorsey Orchestra will kick
off the 2008 concert season for the Northport Community Arts Center on
May 5, 2008.


Led by internationally known band leader Buddy Morrow, one of the
world's all time great trombone players and a featured performer with
the great bands of the Big Band era, the orchestra retains the
authentic sound and style of the late Tommy Dorsey but is flexible
enough to incorporate other music into their repertoire. Concert
goers will enjoy original Dorsey classics as well as popular music
from Dixieland and rhythm and blues. Tickets for this special
performance are just $25 and can be ordered by calling the NCAC at
231-386-5674.


This is the first of 10 performances, including eight concerts and two
musicals planned by the Northport Community Arts Center from May to

Battle of the Bands

May 18, 2008 – 8 pm

This concert features three outstanding high school jazz bands: Elk
Rapids, Kingsley, and Suttons Bay. Bill Sears, Interlochen's Director
of Jazz Studies and Saxophone, will clinic the bands during the
afternoon. The three jazz bands will be featured in the evening with
Bill Sears as a featured soloist. Co-sponsors: Northern Lumber
Company & Pro Hardware, Suttons Bay and The Business Helper.


The Chenille Sisters

June 21, 2008 – 8 pm

Exploding on the music scene in 1985 as single artists doing their own
thing, the "sisters" shared the limelight from time to time and
discovered that their voices melted together like honey butter on hot
toast. The Chenille Sisters were born and triumphantly return to our
stage. Sponsors: Northport Building Supply & Ace Hardware, Timm Sahs
and L. Mawby Vineyards, Larry Mawby.


Juggernaut Jug Band

July 5, 2008 – 8 pm

From Louisville, Kentucky, comes the "natty-cool" Juggernaut Jugband
featuring jug and washboard along with a snare drum, trumpet and
electric guitar playing music from vaudeville to Nat King Cole. Enjoy
fabulous vocal harmony with a mood of inspired silliness. Sponsor:

Dave Bennett Quartet

July 19, 2008 – 8 pm

Dave Bennett brings his own band to our stage for his tribute to the
world renowned clarinetist, Benny Goodman. Bennett is one of our
nation's most recognized clarinet performers including his incredible
renditions of Benny Goodman. Sponsor: Northport Point Jazz Buffs.


West Side Story – Theatre North

Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre
International. One of the greatest musicals comes to the NCAC for
eight performances. Theatre North of Traverse City performs this
classic Leonard Bernstein musical in our concert hall. The music and

$croogical – Northport Theatre Company

A new musical by the well-known composer and musician Kirby Shaw,
$croogical is based on Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol". Kirby's
music and his wife Markita's libretto, bring this engaging story
up-to-date. This special treat is bound to be on Broadway so see it

Christmas Concert

Local artists, The Village Voices and Northport Community Band
conducted by Ann and Ken Bloomquist, will once again present your
favorite music. Planned for the young at heart with an emphasis on
children, Santa Claus will visit with his bag of goodies. This year
we've scheduled two performances, so join your friends and neighbors
and start the "Happy Holidays" in style. December 13 co-sponsor:
