PROMISE PLEDGE PICNIC SILENT AUCTION

OFFERS OVER $18,000 IN GOODS, SERVICES AND EXPERIENCES

NORTHPORT, MI – A chance to drive or ride in a DeLorean owned by the Chief Engineer for the prototype car, a $5,000 Indian rug, a baseball signed by five former Detroit Tigers, three from the World Series winning 1968 team, lodgings in Northport and Omena, gift certificates for dinners, massages, golf coupons and a “golf goodie bag” are just a few of the $18,000 worth of goods, services and experiences available for bid at the Northport Promise Pledge Picnic Silent Auction on Saturday.

Also featured is music by North Bay Celtic and Hugh Willey, classic picnic fare and kid’s activities from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at Northport’s Marina Park. The event will raise funds for the Northport Promise scholarship program...

“We’re looking forward to another great Promise Pledge Picnic,” says Northport Promise Founder Sally Viskochil. “The weather predictions are great, the community has been incredibly generous with donations again and we’re looking forward to another great day in Northport supporting a great cause.”

Donations for the silent auction continue to come in and an updated list is available daily on the Northport Promise Web site, www.northportpromise.com.

The Northport Promise program is modeled after the successful Kalamazoo Promise announced in 2005. The Kalamazoo Promise, in just two years, has begun revitalizing the city’s school district. It is credited with increasing enrollments by 1,000 students this year after several years of losing 250 students per year. Ninety percent of Kalamazoo’s 2006 graduating class went on to college, up from 78% of the previous year’s graduates.
